About the Lefthand Watershed

The Lefthand Creek watershed drains approximately 220 km2 over an area ranging in elevation from 1,400 m on the eastern Colorado Plains to 4,200 m at the Continental Divide. The watershed overlies geologic formations forming the northern tip of the Colorado Mineral Belt.

Past hardrock mining and milling activities have left behind a rich history, as well as a water quality impacts from acid mine drainage.
